Dusting Off the Tracks

The Tanjung Priok Railway Station was once touted as the most majestic in Batavia in the 20th century. It was built in 1909 in what is now North Jakarta during the administration of Governor General AFW Idenburg. On April 28, more than 10 years after it was abandoned, the station was officially reopened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who rode the Djoko Kendil train.
The art deco station is once again open for business, serving inner-city electric trains and the conventional inner-city trains, although renovations have not yet been completed on all of its eight platforms.
