Remembering Abraham's Sacrifice

Muslims around the country marked Idul Adha on Friday (27/11) by attending early morning prayers, followed by slaughtering goats and cattle. As it is instructed in the Koran, heads of households must sacrifice an animal in remembrance of Abraham's near-sacrifice of his son, the meat of which is divided up into portions. One-third of the meat is given to the needy and one-thrird to neighbors. The rest can be used by the family to celebrate the day. Lunch generally consists of goat kebabs or curry, accompanied by rice cakes, which are made by boiling rice in woven coconut casings. idul Adha, is one of the most important Muslim holidays, and marks the end of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
