Weaving a Tradition

The village of Batumananggau in West Sumatra’s Sawahlunto district is famed for its tenun, a handwoven textile, much of them made in family-run businesses. Ira, her husband Rahmat and daughter Diva work full-time producing tenun, and can earn up to Rp 350,000 ($29) for an item of clothing that takes them up to four days to make.
