Old Sound

Sasando is a traditional string instrument from Rote in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, where it has been used since the seventh century.It consists of a long bamboo tube with strings, placed inside a palmleaf shell. In NTT capital Kupang, Jeremis A. Paah, 74, has made and played the sasando since 1950. His
10-year-old son, Rino, is continuing the family tradition.
