Age-Old Culture

Nias, an island off the western coast of Sumatra, is inhabited by a mix of people, including a native tribe known as the Ono Niha, which preserves an ancient megalithic culture. Nias’s population of about 700,000 includes people of Batak, Malay and Chinese descent, as well as Ono Niha. The island was recently visited by photographers as part of a trip organized by National Geographic Indonesia and Sony Indonesia.
